Some interesting facts about the Super 300 SANDS CHINA LTD. Macau Open 2026, which is into its 18th edition.
None of last year’s champions are back to defend their titles.
However, four former winners are competing – Tan Wee Kiong (2013 with Hoo Tien How), Jeon Hyeok Jin (2014), Kim Gi Jung (2018 with Lee Yong Dae) and Ng Ka Long Angus (2024).
Of those, only Ng enters the tournament as the top seed in his discipline.
The last six men’s singles champions have all come from different nations.
Mixed doubles top seeds Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin are making their tournament debut.
Despite possessing the top seeds, neither Korea (Kim Ga Eun) nor Indonesia (Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti) have won the respective sectors.
Indonesia’s prospects in women’s doubles are further strengthened by the presence of another seeded pair, No.3 Isyana Syahira Meida/Rinjani Kwinara Nastine.
Victory for any of those pairs will crown the maiden winners from the country in a female category.
Similarly, Thailand are yet to ace women’s singles, in which Busanan Ongbamrungphan – runner-up in 2012 – is seeded second.
It is one of two departments the Thais have not won, the other being women’s doubles, where they have two seeded pairs in contention.
Standout Stat: Starting 2009, only Pusarla V. Sindhu (2013-2015) and Michelle Li (2018-2019) have prevented Chinese players from winning women’s singles.
