The SATHIO GROUP Australian Open 2025 – the final qualifying tournament to the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2025 – begins tomorrow with the last few spots to the season finale set to be decided this week.
The World Tour Super 500 event offers significant ranking points that could prove pivotal to the ambitions of a few players and pairs.
In men’s singles, Kodai Naraoka’s title victory at the Kumamoto Masters on Sunday did a world of good to his chances as he jumped to eighth place in the qualifying list, and he will look to cement his spot when he begins his campaign in Australia. The fourth seed is up against Sheng Xiaodong in the first round and a potentially difficult second round against Ayush Shetty.

Also in contention for the final qualifying spot is Lin Chun-Yi, who made the quarterfinals in Kumamoto. Lin trails Naraoka by 5,980 points.
Loh Kean Yew, another contender – with 69,910 points – withdrew.
Men’s doubles has five pairs in the reckoning. Kittinupong Kedren/Dechapol Puavaranukroh, Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Wang Chi-Lin, Lee Fang-Chih/Lee Fang-Jen, Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri are all in contention for two remaining spots.
Of them, Thai pair Kedren/Puavaranukroh are not in the draw in Australia, leaving the other four pairs to battle it out. Chiu/Wang (66,120 points) have their noses ahead as they are chased by Lee/Yang (64,880 points) and Lee/Lee (65,830 points).
In mixed doubles, it’s a dead heat between Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong/Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat and Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu who are drawn to meet in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, in women’s singles, world No.1 An Se Young will look to match her 2023 record of 10 titles in a season, which will keep her on track for Kento Momota’s singles record of 11.
