The Top 8 qualifiers for the world’s most lucrative badminton tournament are locked in. The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals will be held in Hangzhou, China from 11-15 December 2024. Players will be fighting it out for their share of the US$2.5 million on offer.
A maximum of two players or pairs per Member Association can qualify. The reigning Olympic champions gain an automatic invitation. Acceptances close on Friday 29 November 2024.
Men’s Singles
Indonesian Jonatan Christie snuck in late to claim the final spot with a strong two-week showing at Kumamoto Masters Japan 2024 and LI-NING China Masters 2024. Anders Antonsen won the overall race while fellow Dane and two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen has a shot at a record fourth crown.
Women’s Singles
Wang Zhi Yi topped the rankings, followed by compatriot Han Yue. Korea’s Olympic champion An Se Young, with five titles this season, finished fourth, while Supanida Katethong’s semifinal run at the LI-NING China Masters 2024 sealed her debut.
Men’s Doubles
Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu, Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan and Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin were all first-time qualifiers. Olympic champions Lee Yang/Wang Chi-lin are set to appear for one final time as a pair.
Women’s Doubles
Olympic champions Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan return for their fifth Finals. Teammates and Paris 2024 silver medallists Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning finished atop the rankings.
Mixed Doubles
Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong, also winners in Paris, are set to defend their title. Their compatriots, Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin, topped the HSBC Race To Finals, edging out China’s other leading pair, and champions in Shenzhen last week, Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping.
The group stage draw will be held on 7 December at the Intercontinental Hotel in Hangzhou. The draw ceremony will be streamed from 11am local time (UTC +8 hours) on BWF TV, Facebook and Weibo.
The new HSBC BWF World Tour Finals trophy will also be unveiled for the first time at the draw.
