New combination Li Yi Jing and Wang Yi Duo fought back from the brink of defeat to Stoeva sisters Gabriela and Stefani in the semifinals of the YONEX Swiss Open 2026 to make their second successive final.
The Stoevas led by a game and 19-12, but the Chinese refused to relent and forced the Bulgarians to make mistakes under pressure, to draw level at 19. The sisters had one more shot at making the final with a 20-19 lead, but Li/Wang held firm to draw level. They maintained a lead all through the decider to make their second final in two tournaments, having reached the title round of the German Open too.
The crestfallen Stoevas, still seeking the first title of the year, admitted to losing focus when they were ahead.
“Of course we are disappointed because we lost but we are happy with the performance here. Disappointed because we had our chances and we were leading by so much in the second game,” said Gabriela. “But this is part of the game, so we just need to learn from our mistakes and come back better prepared. We should try to enjoy the game even if we lose points. When we lose focus it’s hard to come back.”
“I don’t know what happened,” said her sister. “We just made too many mistakes; from 19-12 we let them come back to 19-all. It was our fault we let them come back. We were aggressive in the first but in the end I don’t know what happened, maybe we got tired, but this is how it is when you play the Chinese, if you don’t play 100 per cent they will beat you.”
Li/Wang, who came together before German Open, said it had taken them time to adjust to their opponents’ style.
“In the first game their tactics were strong and we were not familiar with their style,” said Li. “In the second, we fell behind but we adjusted ourselves and fought back. Hopefully we can perform strongly in the final.”
Li/Wang take on second seeds Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian in the all-Chinese final.
Lee/Lee Prevent all-Danish Final
Chinese Taipei twins Lee Fang-Chih/Lee Fang Jen saved two match points in a thriller against qualifiers Christian Faust KjÆr/Rasmus KjÆr to make their first final since the Canada Open last July.
The Kjaers, who are in only their sixth tournament together, led all through the decider and had two match points at 20-19 and 21-20 but both times their opponents hung in and finally turned it around to win 16-21 21-13 23-21.
