Lee Zii Jia and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting make their return to competition this week in the qualifying rounds of YONEX Swiss Open 2026. The former world No.2 players, the last two Olympic bronze medallists, have seen their rankings fall following extended periods on the sidelines through injury.
Lee has been largely absent from the circuit since sustaining an ankle injury during the group stages of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in December 2024. The current world No.64, whose career-high ranking of No.2 came in October 2022, competed at only five tournaments last year. This season, he has appeared in four World Tour events, most recently retiring in the Thailand Masters quarterfinals against Alwi Farhan. The Malaysian meets Japan’s Minoru Koga in qualifying in their first encounter.
Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Ginting, now ranked No.51, is also working his way back after fitness issues. Ginting has played just one event this year, the Indonesia Masters, where he advanced through qualification before giving a walkover to Jason Teh in the second round. He will face China’s Zhu Xuan Chen in their first meeting.
Meanwhile, new All England champion Lin Chun-Yi, the fourth seed, has withdrawn. The Chinese Taipei shuttler, Swiss Open winner in 2024, had been scheduled to play Yushi Tanaka. Tanaka now faces Swiss wildcard Julien Scheiwiller in the opening round.
Last week’s semifinalist Victor Lai of Canada has also pulled out.
