Mia Blichfeldt made her first final in several months as she overcame Michelle Li in the semifinals of the YONEX German Open 2024.
The world No.22 has had a lean spell lately, crashing out in the opening round of the HSBC BWF World Tour in seven of her last nine tournaments. While her last final on the circuit was at the European Games in July, her last final at a World Tour event was at the Swiss Open in March last year.
On Saturday, Blichfelt recovered from the loss of the second game to make it past Li, 21-13 18-21 21-10, and will take on Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh, who made her first Super 300 final beating second seed Kim Ga Eun 20-22 21-8 21-16.
In men’s singles, Rasmus Gemke made his first World Tour final since the French Open of October 2022 with a narrow 15-21 21-17 21-19 result over Zhao Jun Peng. Gemke trailed 6-12 in the third game before a seven-point sequence took him from 8-13 to 16-14.
Up next for the Dane will be Christo Popov, who beat Jeon Hyeok Jin 21-17 11-21 21-11.
