Singapore Open: Cheam Gets Li Rematch

A week after giving All England champion Li Shi Feng a scare in the TOYOTA GAZOO RACING Thailand Open 2023 first round, Cheam June Wei will have another chance to test himself against the world No.12 at Singapore Open 2023.

Cheam and Li contested one of the most entertaining opening round duels in Bangkok, with Li eventually prevailing 21-18 18-21 21-14 in 78 minutes.

The withdrawal of Kento Momota due to an injury has seen the 26-year-old Malaysian handed a rare chance to play at an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event.

The winner will progress to a meeting with either Weng Hong Yang or eighth seed Lee Zii Jia.

The following players have also been promoted to the main draw.

Men’s singles

Chia Hao Lee (in place of top seed Viktor Axelsen)

Women’s singles

Aakarshi Kashyap (Lalinrat Chaiwan)

Ishika Jaiswal (Busanan Ongbamrungphan)

Women’s doubles

Supissara Paewsampran/Puttita Supajirakul (Meilysa Trias Puspitasari/Rachel Allessya Rose)
