Thailand Open: Good Day for Hosts

Hosts Thailand enjoyed a strong quarterfinals day at the TOYOTA GAZOO RACING Thailand Open 2023, with four of five contenders winning their matches.

The charge was led in mixed doubles by Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai, who had little trouble in fending off the challenge of Dutch duo Robin Tabeling/Selena Piek in 35 minutes, 21-16 21-12.

Aimsaard sisters Benyapa and Nuntakarn, winners of the Thailand Masters in January, had some early trouble against Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi, but after winning six straight points to level at 10, the Thais led all the way to a 21-17 21-7 victory.

Thailand also had a second pair in the semifinals, with Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai beating Jeong Na Eun/Kim Hye Jeong in straight games.

India Open champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn rebounded from the loss of the opening game to Lu Guang Zu. The second seed, looking for his first Thailand Open title, overcame his opponent in three games, 18-21 21-14 21-11.

The only setback for Thailand was Pornpawee Chochuwong’s loss to third seed He Bing Jiao in women’s singles.
