BWF, Infront Pan-Asia and Hawk-Eye Statement

The Badminton World Federation (BWF), Infront Pan-Asia and technology partner Hawk-Eye Innovations have conducted a review of the game point decision in the opening game of yesterday’s men’s doubles semifinal between Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (INA) and Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi (MAS) at the DAIHATSU Indonesia Masters 2021.

All parties can confirm an error in operational processes was made by Hawk-Eye Innovations during the screening of the tracking footage resulting in the wrong data being displayed.

Hawk-Eye Innovations explanation: “Hawk-Eye acknowledges that the incorrect decision was made, and apologise for this, especially to Mr. Gideon, Mr. Sukamuljo, Mr. Ong and Mr. Teo, as well as the BWF, for the resulting impact of the error on the match. Trust in officiating processes is critical, and something that we treat incredibly seriously for all Hawk-Eye technologies. We are proud of our longstanding relationship with BWF and fully understand the importance of trust and integrity in technology used for officiating. Whilst incidents such as this are incredibly rare, we take every issue incredibly seriously and will be undertaking a full review to ensure that this cannot happen again.”

BWF, Infront Pan-Asia and Hawk-Eye Innovations regret yesterday’s incident and continue to work together to ensure accurate delivery of Hawk-Eye tracking on all matches in which Hawk-Eye is in use.
