Indonesia Masters: ‘Too Late to Fight Back’

Melati Daeva Oktavianti admitted she and partner Praveen Jordan could have done better after suffering a surprise opening round loss to Dhruv Kapila and Reddy N. Sikki at the DAIHATSU Indonesia Masters 2021.

Despite starting as second seeds, the Indonesian world No.5s fell 21-11 22-20 to the Indian pair ranked 173 places below them in just 30 minutes.

“We were too relaxed at the beginning of the first game. We made a lot of mistakes in the second so we left it too late to fight back,” Oktavianti said post-match.

Asked if the pressure of playing a home event contributed to the defeat, Oktavianti said: “No, we always give our maximum and try to enjoy being on the court.”

The defeat extends the Indonesians’ wait for a title to 20 months. They last finished champions at last year’s All England.

Kapila/Reddy next face Supak Jomkoh/Supissara Paewsampran tomorrow for a place in the last eight.
